Liam J. Cassidy, a Northern New Jersey native, was a dynamic three-sport athlete in basketball, football, and baseball before solely concentrating on basketball before high school. Once at the high school level, he earned a varsity letter as a fifteen-year-old, an achievement reserved for just eight players over fourteen years – ultimately serving as team captain his senior year. Despite opportunities to play college basketball, Liam chose to pursue a six-year program at Seton Hall University for a clinical doctorate in physical therapy.
At Seton Hall, Liam spent countless hours developing his skills as an emerging leader. He served as a Resident Assistant for three years, guiding hundreds of freshmen, including many Division I athletes transitioning to college life. He was then promoted to Head Resident Assistant of the largest dormitory on campus during his last year of undergraduate study, where he earned the award of Resident Assistant of the Year. He also honed his public speaking skills, emceeing alongside the university president and introducing keynote speakers and events for the career center. As a team leader in the Student Alumni Association, he connected distinguished alumni with emerging student leaders. In 2022, he graduated from Seton Hall University’s College of Arts and Sciences with his Bachelor of Science in Biology.
In graduate school, Liam served as class president for his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, leading a board of graduate students and contributing significantly to the program's opportunities. He would also become heavily involved as a student researcher in a published study focused on leadership competencies in health care clinicians. Through this research, Liam presented his findings to national organizations in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Philadelphia, PA. In 2023, he was one of only two physical therapy students in New Jersey selected to attend and assist at the American Physical Therapy Association’s House of Delegates in Washington, D.C. By 2024, he graduated with his DPT as the only student in his program to receive the Nicholas DeProspo Award for Outstanding Service and an honorable mention award for his research contributions.
Liam’s experience in rehabilitating Division I athletes is extensive. Since 2019, he has worked with Seton Hall University’s sports medicine department, focusing on returning Big East athletes to peak performance. As a student physical therapist, Liam completed a three-month clinical experience at Rutgers University, where he gained insights into treating Olympic and Big Ten athletes alongside their Director of Rehabilitation and Injury Prevention. Currently, as a board-certified physical therapist at Scher Sports Medicine, he specializes in rehabilitating Seton Hall’s Division I athletes, as a focused provider for the Men’s Basketball NIT Championship program.
At Top Mental Game, Liam will apply his expertise to support athletes of all ages through their challenges and successes. His comprehensive understanding of athletic pressures and strategies to build mental resilience helps athletes unlock their ability to achieve their maximum potential as an athlete, student, and overall person. Liam prides himself on the opportunities he has to professionally tend to both the mind and body of those striving for athletic success.Â
