Check out Shohei Ohtani's Goal Sheet

confidence goal-setting mindset Jan 07, 2024

It’s easy to be cynical about New Year’s resolutions.

But I think there’s something to be said for intentionality.

At Top Mental Game, we put all of our athletes through a simple but powerful goal-setting exercise.

After getting the athlete to identify their BHAG (big, hairy, and audacious goal), we ask them to come up with a process to maximize their chances of achieving their BHAG.

We ask them “what bucket/priority areas do you think are going to move the needle for you?”

Then we have them come up with PROCESS goals (not OUTCOME goals) to get there.

This photo is Shohei Ohtani’s goal sheet when he was a freshman in high school, and it looks eerily similar to how we do it at TMG.

Of course, we also get the athlete to include a “hero” pic to accompany this sheet and to help trigger their reticular activating system.
